Inga Mark Lawrence was born in McPherson, Kansas, in 1931, studying violin with her father starting at the age of 6. She went on to study in Kansas City for a year and then spent 4 years at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, graduating in the early 1950s, and becoming a professional violinist for 50 years.
Throughout her lifetime, she was a talented and dedicated musician, living and working in New York, Alaska, Virginia, California, Houston, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Wyoming, Halifax and the Maritime provinces, Toronto, and Florida. She felt most “at home” when she was in the driver’s seat of her car, heading out on her next road trip.
She was a staunch Democrat, a lover of animals and US politics and classical music, a Unitarian-Universalist, a gardener, an avid traveler, and a loyal friend, generous and caring and helpful to the elderly.
She leaves behind two daughters, Christine Langone (Nova Scotia) and Debra Lawrence (Maryland), her sister Sonja Smith (Kansas), and her best friend from Juilliard, Barbara Long Bloom (New Jersey).
Inga passed away from heart failure at the age of 90 on March 28, 2022. If you would like to make a donation in her name, she would have wanted it to go to your local animal shelter. Thank you.
