Dad is now with his wife Mary Hermes, the love of his life for 63 years, who passed away in 2009. He is survived by his only daughter Karen Ross (Bowden), her husband Peter, Halifax, granddaughter, Jennifer, her husband Neil (Spencer), great grandson, James, England, and grandson Mark and his wife Ashton (Verge), Dartmouth.
Dad was an only child, born and raised in Verdun Quebec (July 14, 1925) and remained in Montreal in Beaconsfield and NDG until moving to Halifax in 1971. A lifelong salesman, he worked in the welding industry until he began “peddling fish” for National Sea Products in Halifax. He always spoke highly of the people and times with Nat Sea. He was also proud of his time serving in the Canadian Armoured Corps - 7th Reconnaissance Regiment during WWII.
Dad, you were the best kind of father. I have cherished memories of our Saturday trips to Plattsburg, Belmont Park, the movies, dinners out and summer nights together. You always made time for me and made my childhood perfect in every way. You have always been there for me and supported me in everything in my life and I will miss you beyond words.
Dad appreciated the friendship of the daily gathering with the coffee guys at Halifax Shopping Center. Gil, Ron and the rest of the guys –Thanks for being there for him.
Thank you to the extraordinary staff at 6 Jubilee West Camp Hill who has become family to us. You have a gift and your kindness, compassion and unwavering support will never be forgotten.
Dad was a strong believer in organ donation and medical research. His brain tissue is being donated to Dalhousie University Research.
A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Agnes Church (his parish for 45 years) on Thursday November 24th at 10:00am with a reception following in the church hall. Cremation has taken place. The burial will take place in the spring of 2017, followed by a gathering for friends and family to raise a Guinness at one of Dads favorite spots –The Old Triangle.
Dad I will miss you every day but you waited long enough to reunite with Mom, and your dear friends. There’s a card game waiting…
