

Jim was born on January 6th, 1933 to Maynard and Alice Colp of West Berlin, Nova Scotia.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Barbara (Williams), daughter Angela, son-in-law Peter Jones, and grandchildren; Nicole, Owen, Bryson and Brennan.
Jim was predeceased by four siblings. Palmer Colp. Phyllis Leslie, Marjorie Conrad and Geraldine Whynot.
Jim began his career at the Advance Newspaper in Liverpool, NS. Jim and Barbara moved to Halifax in 1964, and he started working at the Chronicle Herald Newspaper where he enjoyed a career of 40 years.
Jim was raised in the Anglican faith, and he was a dedicated parishioner throughout his adult life, offering his time for the upkeep of St. Peter’s Church and fundraising.
Jim had a passion for the outdoors and nature. He enjoyed gardening, flowers and vegetables, landscaping, picking berries, and making jams and pickles. His strawberry jam will be forever known as “Jimmy Jam” by his grandchildren.
Upon Jim's retirement, he volunteered at the food bank and enjoyed giving back to the community. Jim played a significant role in the upbringing of his grandchildren, who he doted on from their infancy to becoming young adults.
Jim's kind demeanor and sense of humor will be greatly missed, but his family has a lifetime of wonderful memories to keep his spirit alive.
Special thanks to the staff of the Geriatric Psychiatry Outpatient Team and of the Willow Unit for the care provided to Jim and compassion shown to the family.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 13th, 2026 from 6 to 8pm at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. Halifax.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, February the 14th, 2026 at 3pm at St. Peter's Anglican Church, 3 Dakin Dr. Halifax.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation In Jim's memory to the Halifax West Ecumenical Food Bank.
