

Jean L Lenaghan (Gallant), age 101 of Halifax NS, passed away July 4, 2013. Born in Amherst, NS, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah D Gallant and Mary (Hashey) Gallant. Jean worked at F. W. Woolworth Co. until she joined the Army in January of 1943 where she entertained the troops on the front lines in United Kingdom, Italy and North West Europe and Canada. She was discharged in Feb 1946 with Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp 1939-1945 star, Italy Star and France and Germany Star. She resumed employment again at F. W. Woolworth Co. until it closed. She worked as a night cook at the IWK Hospital in the early 1970’s until she retired. She belonged to Vimy Legion branch 27, was a member of Northwood Players & Drama Club, did Hawaiian dancing and played the ukulele.
Survived by sister Thelma Kiely, nieces Jean Sherren, Nancy Ashbury (Gary) Marilyn McAnulty, Shirley Hargreaves; nephews Paul Duncan (Judy) and James Kiely; several grand-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband James Lenaghan; brother Elmer; sisters Adeline, Helen and Martina.
Many thanks to Dr. Graham Bethune, all the nurses and support staff of 5E Garrison Veterans Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care they gave Jean over her 3 year stay. A special thanks to Darrell, music therapist, for his music during her passing.
Visitation will be held in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Sunday, July 7 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Monday July 8 at 11 am at J. A. Snow Memorial Chapel, burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations to charity of choice.
