

Age 50, of Halifax. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved John on Sunday August 25, 2013. He died at the QEII, surrounded by his family after fighting a courageous battle during his illness. He left the world he loved for his eternal home in heaven. He is survived by his mother, Dianne; brother, Scott (Cathie); sister, Wendy (Brian) and twin sister, Jane; uncle, Frank; nephews, John (Erica), Reid, Jonathan and Zachary, nieces, Sarah (TJ), Ailish and Morgan. He was predeceased by his father, Richard.
John loved music of all kinds and was a drummer who played in a couple of local bands. He was a running enthusiast and enjoyed salt-water fishing. John loved to sail, a passion he shared with his late father. His favourite time was spent with his family and friends and was always happiest when he was surrounded by both. John was a gracious, giving and generous person, he was a great friend, uncle, brother and son. He loved spending time with his nephew’s young children, Lily-Ann and Emma.
He was a graduate of Mount St, Vincent University with a Bachelor of Arts. He trained and worked in the aquaculture field.
The family is grateful to all of the staff of the QEII, Rehabilitation Centre, paramedics and the home care workers who worked with John over the duration of his illness. Special thanks to Dr. Wanda Hasegawa and the hematology team for their outstanding assistance.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 29 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and on Friday, August 30, a celebration of his life at 10:00 am in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. Halifax B3S 0E1 (455-0531). Burial at Fairview Cemetery. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation or charity of choice.
