
John worked with Dow Brewery in Montreal and then at the Department of Development with the Nova Scotia Government until his retirement.
John loved coaching the Rockingham Rebels Hockey Team with his sons and was always up for a skate at the Centennial Arena or to cheer on the St FX. Hockey team when they visited the Halifax Forum. John was also a dedicated parishioner of St. Benedicts Parish in Halifax.
Born in Cheticamp. John grew up in Sydney, Nova Scotia, where he met his first wife Mary Kathleen (Kay) Lewis. He graduated from St. FX University and had two amazing sons, John (Kathy) and Timothy (Kristy) and was blessed to be the grandfather of Reese and Ryleigh. John is survived by his sisters Lorraine Manley, Eileen McLeod and Theresa Coole.
John is also survived by his step children, Debby (Dennis Proudfoot), Brenda (Tim Perry) and David (Gina MacAvoy).
The family would like to thank all the staff and doctors at Shannex Parkstone in Halifax for their care of John while he resided with them.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. No visitation by request. A memorial service in celebration of John’ s life will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 10: 00 am at the Chapel at Snows Funeral Home. Deacon Tom Smith officiating followed by interment in Fairview Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice.
