HENNIGAN, John William "Jack", 83, of Halifax, passed away peacefully, at home, March 6, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer. He was the son of J. Gerald and Irene (Martin) Hennigan. Jack attended St. Mary's College High School and Canadian Vocational Training Centre where he trained as a welder. After working at his trade for a few years, he joined the Halifax Fire Department where he served for 35 years and made many life-long friends. Jack was a faithful member of St. Lawrence Church for 50 years until it closed. An avid Boston fan, Jack religiously cheered for the Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots. Not interested in travel, he was happiest at Ketch Harbour, by the shore or in his yard communing with nature. A true family man, he loved them all dearly, was very proud of their accomplishments and would brag about them to anyone who would listen. He took great delight in the antics of his great grandchildren. Jack is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeananne (Flemming), his children, Terry Billard (late Mark), Herring Cove, Mary Liz (Ron) Stewart, Halifax, Cathy Lothian (Stephen Mounce), Windsor, John (Crystal), Georgetown, Ont; his grandchildren, Catherine, Maggie, Michael, Mitchell, Alex, Claire, Dennis, Colleen, Patrick, Jack, Sam and Claudia; his great grandchildren, Chloe, Harper and Ada; his sister, Colleen (late Bill) MacDonald, Whiteside, N.S., as well as many nieces and nephews.
