
John Thomas “Jack” Phelan passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Born 1936 in North Sydney, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late John T. and Annie Phelan. Jack was a retired Salvation Army Officer (Major); most of his active years were spent in Western Canada and Ontario. Jack had not been in good health for some time and it is with great sadness that we announce his passing. Survived by sisters, Violet “Vi” Thorne, Vivian Gates, both of Halifax; Ann Bruckmoser (Lou), Wisconsin and brothers, Brian (Phyllis), Truro and George (Barb), New Minas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. Funeral on Monday, May 27 at 2 p.m. in Fairview with Captains James and Shelley Rand officiating and retired Major Don Dean. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Salvation Army. Burial will be held Tuesday, May 28 at 2 p.m. in Lakeside Cemetery in North Sydney.
