1956-2022
John Sexton, CHE
Managing Partner Canadian Healthcare Management. It is with the deepest of sorrow that we announce the passing of John Sexton who left us unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 15th, 2022 at the age of 65 years. Cherished life long partner to Bernadette Seward, John will be sadly missed by all of his many friends, his sister, Jackie Ducharme and her family (Paul Ducharme, Natalee Ducharme, Julia Ducharme), uncle, Larry McManus, and his two beloved Portuguese Water Dogs (Chief and Moxie).
John was a dear and trusted friend to many, a well respected leader within the Canadian healthcare system, and a person who used the short time he had here wisely.
John launched his healthcare career at Henry Ford Hospital (Detroit), -- a state of the art hospital and world leading academic centre. When he moved to Toronto, he joined Toronto East General Hospital as Director of Utilization Management before launching CHM. Over his 30 year career, John transformed clinical utilization management, activity based performance management and case costing in Canada. John has been active in numerous healthcare associations including serving on the Board of the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
In January 2015, CHM partnered with PowerHealth Solutions (PHS), a global leader in healthcare. By 2017, CHM was supporting the roll-out of the solution to the entire Quebec health system. Over the last year their ongoing success made John tremendously proud, busy, and connected to senior healthcare leaders across the country.
John spent his entire life striving to do the right thing in everything he did – in his business relationships, with his family and friends and in his community. John knew life was what you made it -- and he made it.
John was passionate about music and never missed a concert of importance to him in the last 30 years – often bringing as many friends as he could to every event, including the unforgettable Cream reunion at Royal Albert Hall, London, England on May 5th, 2005.
John’s presence in the lives of all who knew him will be greatly missed.
John loved John Kennedy as much as he loved Jimi Hendrix. In many ways he lived his life with the same philosophy as them which is reflected in the following two quotes: "Life is never easy. There is work to be done and obligations to be met…” – J. Kennedy, and, “I'm the one that's got to die when it's time for me to die, so let me live my life the way I want to.” – J. Hendrix.
