Aptly named, Joyce shared many joys in life, but firstly her family whom she cherished above all else. Joyce greatly enjoyed cooking; gardening (she loved tulips); golfing; playing bridge and crib; dancing; watching Agatha Christie mysteries; and was a enthusiastic supporter of the Monarchy. Her family’s fondest memories of Joyce include baking; knitting; puzzling; playing Scrabble; doing crosswords; digging through her closet for clothes; and attending Remembrance Day ceremonies with her.
Born within sight and sound of Bow Bells, lying about her age Joyce joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service at age 17 in 1942. She was seconded to the Royal Artillery as an anti-aircraft gun layer. She served throughout the war, and remained in the ATS until 1950. Joyce was always active in her community and was one of the founding members of the Warndon Sports and Social Club in Worcester, England. She made many lasting friendships within the IODE in Nova Scotia, of which she was a past Chapter Regent and past Provincial Treasurer. Her hospitality was shared with many through her B&B business, The Dormy House, in Milton, NS.
Joyce was pre-deceased by her first husband, William Hill; her beloved second husband, Geoff Cook; and her sister, Elsie (Bubbles) Hanson. She is survived by her five children of her first marriage, Terence Hill (Delia); Tim Hill; Andy Hill (Pat); Richard Hadley; and Julya Hill (John), all of Nova Scotia, and her youngest sister, Doris (Dot) Jeynes of Worcester, England. She was cherished by her eight grandchildren (Lucy; Duncan; Sam; Alice Kate; Lauren; Kelsey; Rob; and Dan) and eight great grandchildren (Lily; Kento; Kaito; Kazuto; Hunter; Emmeline; Freya; and William).
The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation to the staff of Maplestone for their exemplary care of Joyce and support for the family.
