Age 103, of Halifax, passed away on June 25, 2017 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII.
Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Reverend Austin and Emeline (Rabine) Morgan. She was a devoted mother who raised her son Michael and daughter Linda on her own following the death of her husband who served in the Canadian Merchant Navy during the Second World War. She was a teacher at Three Mile Plains School near Windsor and at the Nova Scotia Home For Coloured Children. She was later employed for many years with the federal government. Her hard work and strength set an example that continues to inspire her family.
Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family. Her grandchildren will always remember weekends at Nan’s that included playing cards, watching Lawrence Welk, and her delicious fishcakes, pancakes and ginger snaps. She had a sharp sense of humour and always took the opportunity to say how proud she was of her children and grandchildren. She was rarely sick a day of her life. She lived independently to the end and was the last remaining member of her immediate family. She always said she was fortunate to live a long life surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Tama), daughter, Linda; grandchildren, Kimberley, Kelli, Kristen and Korey, great-grandchildren Alexandra, Maria, Benjamin, Zoe, Morgan, Rory, Jordan and Kendall; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Rupert; sisters Peryle Lowe, Edith White, Shirley Thompson, brother, Arthur Morgan, special son-in-law David Fennell.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 4 from 7-9 p.m. at JA Snow Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Dr, Halifax. A celebration of life will be held Wednesday July 5 11:00 a.m. also at JA Snow Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of choice.
