

RICHARDS, William Judson “Jud” - 74, of Halifax, passed away peacefully with family by his side at the V.G. Palliative Care Unit on October 15, 2010. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late John and Sybil (Fillatre) Richards.
He graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School then completed a business course at the vocational school. Jud worked at Sears before starting a career in law enforcement in the R.C.M.P. then came back to Halifax to join the Halifax City Police. He was active with the Halifax Police Boys and Girls Club, a scout leader, a member of DeMolay and a member of St. John’s #2 Lodge. He retired in 1993 to follow a new career as a tour guide, first with D.R.L and then Ambassatours where he made new and valued friendships. In retirement, he and Nancy spent many winters in Florida where he enjoyed countless hours playing his favorite pastime of golf, and hosted the Annual Nova Scotia Picnic in Seminole, Florida.
Jud is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy (Gardner); daughter Kathryn (Richard) Brown, Herring Cove; son Steven (Cathy) Richards, Morgantown, West Virginia; sister Marin Graves, sister-in-law Joan (Peter) Davies, Liverpool; brother John Richards, Halifax; nephew Jeff Webster, Calgary, AB and niece Dawn Lewis, Canmore, AB; and four grandchildren; Ashley Brown (Matthew), Andrew Brown (Sarah), Halifax, Kyle Richards, and Brandon Richards, Morgantown, West Virginia.
He is predeceased by brother-in-law Don Graves and sister-in-law Julia Richards.
The family would like to extend very special thanks to Marlene and Veronica, Dr. Morzycki and the doctors, nurses and staff of the V.G. Site, QEII on 8A and 7A Palliative Care for their concern and kindness to Jud during his illness.
Arrangements are under the care of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. Visitation will be held Monday, October 18th from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 19th at 2 p.m. from St. James Anglican Church, 2668 Joseph Howe Drive, Halifax, Canon Rod Gillis officiating assisted by Rev. David Baston.
