Judi (Judith) Suzanne Ellis, 76 passed away suddenly at home, July 24, 2023. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia she was the daughter of Kathyrn Roberta (Dailpay) and George Jeremiah Furey. She is survived by her son Darryl (Lanie), daughters Karyn (Brendan) and Jennifer (Perry), grandsons Ryelan (Pinky), Benedict and Ellis, granddaughters Louis Ann (Onin), Dennise (Mark), great-grandson Theodore, sisters Pat (Peter), Jane (Duayne), brother Tim (Cheryl), brothers-in-law David Ellis, Paul (Pat) Hammond, sisters-in-law Suzanne Ellis, Jane (David) O’Callaghan and fur babies Lulu and Jake. She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband, John and her mother-in-law Peggy (Iley) & father-in-law Arthur Hammond.
Judi’s first love was her family. She was a romantic who followed her heart and eloped with her husband John after meeting him while he was stationed in Halifax with The British Navy. She was also wise and after being introduced to him through a chance phone conversation, planned their first meeting at a local dance carefully so that she could observe him from afar. She was charmed by the fact that he ordered a glass of milk and was polite to those around him. After making him wait for more than thirty minutes she sat down next to him, and their love story began.
Judi moved to England with her John the day before her 18th birthday. She dearly loved her UK family, who welcomed her with open arms. During her time in England, she gave birth to her first child, Darryl. They moved back to Canada in 1970 where the family would grow with the births of Karyn and Jennifer. Judi was very excited to become a grandmother and was overjoyed with the births of Ben & Eli in 2016. She loved spending time with them and created a special room for them in her home for sleepovers. She was also delighted by the recent birth of her only great-grandchild, Theodore.
Judi was very social and was eager to enter the workforce as her children grew older. She first worked as a daycare assistant before beginning her career in customer service and management at Tim Hortons and Chris Brothers. She was a hard worker and maintained many friendships with her coworkers throughout the years.
To say that Judi loved cats would be an understatement. She felt an instant connection with every cat that she met, and she had many wonderful fur companions over the years.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday August 1st, 10 am at J. A. Snow Funeral Home, Rev. Kevin Little officiating with reception to follow.
