Born in 1930 in Halifax, she was the only daughter of the late Hon. Henry P. MacKeen and Alice (Tilley) MacKeen. Educated at “Seagates” Convent of the Sacred Heart in Halifax, Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School in Montreal, she received her BA from Dalhousie in 1952, and that year she also was married to Arthur R. Moreira.
She is survived by three sons: Arthur William (Sue), of Halifax; James Henry (Melissa) of Stillwater, Me; and Peter David (Carol), of Halifax; and seven grandchildren: Matthew, Philip, Jeffrey, Andrew, Alexander, Catherine and Scott. She was predeceased by her parents, by her husband Arthur R. Moreira, QC, in 1997, by her childhood caregiver and lifelong friend, Jessie Sweet, “Sweetie”, and by her brother, H. David MacKeen.
The family wishes to acknowledge the great kindness, caring and support shown to our parents through many years by Dr. Ernie Johnson. He was always there for them. The family would also like to extend warmest thanks to the doctors and staff of the Halifax Infirmary. A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of St. David on Friday, January 14th, at 3 p.m. conducted by Rev. Kenneth Stright. Family flowers only. Donations, in lieu of flowers, would gratefully be received by the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Restoration Committee of St. David’s Church.
