Julie attended Tower Road School, Queen Elizabeth High School (QEHS) and Mount Allison Commercial College (MtA), where she earned a two-year secretarial diploma. She was on the basketball teams and made life long friends at QEHS and MtA.
After marrying her boy-next-door husband Graham McGee Thomas in 1954 they lived in Halifax, Moncton, N.B., and Sackville, N.B. before returning to Halifax in 1965. Julie was a loving and devoted only child and a loving, generous and supportive mother of five children, grandmother of 13 and great grandmother of three. Julie worked at Dalhousie University, Mills Brothers, and Air Canada and as Secretary for the Nova Scotia branch of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. She volunteered for many years with the United Church Women and as an Elder at Fort Massey United Church for which she was honoured with the Order of Fort Massey in 2013. Julie played clarinet in the Halifax Music Department Chebucto Band and Orchestra for many years. She enjoyed reading, painting, everything red, getting into mischief, baseball caps, sweaters, ice cream with chocolate sauce, Tim Horton’s, and was especially appreciated for her back tickling. She loved her golden retrievers, Brandy and Shea, her saucy cat Scooter and her cottage on the Gulf Shore. Julie was predeceased by her husband Graham in 2010.
She is survived by her children, daughters and sons-in-law and grandchildren Ross (and Elizabeth Massarelli, Justin, Alex, Rena and Sara), Tracey (Kimberlee and Kyra), Jamie (and Wendy Thomas, Brittany, Amanda and Victoria), Sally (and George Robertson, Emma and Kate), Wendy (and Alan Webb, Riley and Tanner).
