

Born in Reigate, England she was the daughter of the late Herbert Luther King, and his wife, Katherine May (Mole) King.
She studied physiotherapy at Saint Thomas’s Hospital in London. At the end of her training and shortly after the war, Shirley emigrated on her own to New Zealand where she worked as a physiotherapist for five wonderful years before returning to England. She married John in 1954 and they immigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia in the fall of 1956 where they started a family and shared their love for music, gardening and sailing.
Shirley was an active volunteer in the community including working with YWCA, VON, Meals on Wheels, Women for Music, Symphony Auxiliary and IWK Auxiliary.
Predeceased by her parents; her husband, John Francis Filbee and her sister, Theresa (Tessa) Mary (King) Puddle; she is survived by her daughters, Sara, Mary (David Archibald) and Jane Filbee as well as her three grandchildren, Paul, Karen and Dave Filbee Dexter.
On Monday, March 28, there will be a visitation at 2:00 pm and a service and reception at 3:30 pm. All will be held at J.A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Private family committal will take place at a later date.
