

Beaton, Kathleen “MacMaster” passed away on June 23rd, 2014 at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre. Christened Catherine Ann, Kathleen was the eldest daughter of John Duncan MacMaster and Sarah Agnes MacDonald. Kathleen grew up in Judique, Cape Breton part of a loving family immersed in Celtic music. She was a step dancer and piano player who loved to accompany her brother Buddy at dances. She recorded with Dan R. MacDonald and other violinists. (Back when it was a big deal. LOL.) In 1949 she married her loving husband, Neil Cyril Beaton (1922-1990) of Harbourview.
Kathleen is survived by her children: Angela, Gerald, Kevin (Karen), Valerie (David Knapman), Murdoch (Michele) of Halifax. Grandchildren: Sara (Mac Ashe), Adele, Nathan (Aneta), Mary Elizabeth (Kenny), Colin, Ian, Haley, Cameron Beaton and Neil and Ben Knapman. Great grandchildren: Madac, Kayleigh and Gabriel. Brothers and sisters: Buddy MacMaster (Marie), Jeannie Brennan(Bruz), Genevieve Whalen (Joe), Lorraine MacDonnell (Jack),Alec MacMaster (Minnie),Betty Lou Beaton (Kinnon). Sisters-in-law: Irene MacMullin (Jerry), Isabel Beaton, Sr. Christine Beaton CND, Lillian Csordas, Peggy Beaton and Mary Adeline Beaton. Kathleen is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, Jerry and her grand- daughter, Christine.
The last two years of Kathleen’s life where made especially meaningful because of the exceptional care of Ann Marie MacLellan. For this the family will be ever grateful. Mom looked forward to Daniel Daley ‘s Sunday visits bringing Our Lord in the Eucharist.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 26, in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, (455-0531) from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, with funeral service on Friday, June 27, at 10:30 am in Saint Benedict Parish, followed by reception, and burial in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff on 8.4 floor for their attentive care during her last few weeks. Special thanks to the Dalhousie student nurses, Lucie, Rachel and Shawna. We also would like to acknowledge Sheena, J.J. and Claudine of RJF Health Care.
Kathleen will be remembered as a gentle lady of compassion and faith. Her spirit and love of music will remain in our hearts.
