Born in Halifax on February 6, 1924, Lena lived a long and happy life in Rockingham surrounded by caring family and friends. She was a generous and enthusiastic aunt, whether taking us on mayflower walks, building backyard skating rinks, driving us to many beach and lakeside destinations, or initiating numerous family gatherings. She was a wonderful support for all of us, which continued through to each new generation.
Some of the memories of Lena that we will carry with us are her fondness for simple pleasures like enjoying an ever-present cup of hot tea or French vanilla, relaxing in the sunshine at home and on annual summer vacations to P.E.I., picking strawberries in the Valley, fashioning and altering holiday hats and other garments, and proudly wearing the green every St Patrick’s Day. All of these as well as other special occasions were shared with family, and recorded and preserved by Lena in a stockpile of photos and home videos.
Lena worked for many years at CNCP in Halifax until her retirement in 1983.
The family wants to thank home care teams and individuals who worked with Lena over the past few years.
Lena was a devoted member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and later of St Benedict Parish where her funeral mass will be held on Thursday, April 23 at 12:15 PM. A reception will follow the service in the basement of St. Benedict. There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the care of J.A. Snow Funeral Home.
