Leo (known as Billy by his family) is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Elaine (McGrath), his parents Avis and Leo, and sisters Marie (Gary Oickle), Goldie DeFord, and Tanya (Ian Poole), many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his McGrath Family.
Born in Halifax, Leo was an athlete who excelled at many sports, and a devoted son and brother. He retired from Canada Post after a 38-year career. Leo was a serious outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time at the camp he built in Walden. He was a great cook: his fish fries, backyard BBQs, annual lobster do’s at the camp, and New Year’s Eve dinners were legendary. Leo and Elaine shared a love for their cat Tessa.
Known for his zest for life, kindness, and generosity of spirit, Leo was always willing to lend a helping hand. He is greatly missed by Elaine, his family, special friends, Mike, Barry, Ron and Brian, as well as a large circle of many close friends.
A special thank you to Leo’s niece Emily-Rose for her kindness during his hospitalization.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at J.A. Snow Funeral Home on Lacewood Drive, from 2 – 4 p.m. A family grave-side service will be held at a later date.
Donations in Leo’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
