Leon Edward John Sautiere, aged 78, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026. Born in North Sydney, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Leon and Genevieve (McCluskey) Sautiere of Saint John, NB.
Edward was a dedicated educator, beginning his teaching career in 1970 and retiring in 1993. Over the years, he served as both an English teacher and a guidance counsellor at several schools, including Queen Elizabeth High School, St. Joseph's A. McKay, Grosvenor-Wentworth Park Elementary School, Rockingham Junior High School, and Gorsebrook Junior High School.
Beyond the classroom, Edward was a long-time, committed member of Scouts Canada. His leadership began as a Troop Leader at St. Agnes in 1979, and he eventually served as the District Commissioner for Halifax North, Assistant Provincial Commissioner (Training), and the Nova Scotia Provincial Commissioner. His faith was also central to his life; he served St. Agnes Parish for many years as a member of the Parish Council, as Chair of the Liturgy Committee, and within the Eucharistic Ministry.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ann Marie (Tobin); his son, Phillip (Angela); and two daughters, Elizabeth Sautiere LeBlanc (Jeff) and Kathleen Sperdakes (Nick). He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren (Andre, Genevieve, Andrew, Isabella, and Cecilia) and two great-grandchildren (Bryson and Blake), and a proud uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, April 8, at 10:00 AM at St. Agnes Parish, with a reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Parkinson's Canada or a charity of your choice.
