

Mabel was born in Saint Paul to the late Firmin de Varennes and late Lydia (Cormier) de Varennes.
After graduating as a registered nurse she worked at the Dr. George-L.-Dumont University Hospital. She went to Boston on a scholarship to advance in her career. After Boston she was promoted as the operating room manager at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital. She was recognized for her efficiencies and organizational skills. Her techniques were known as “doing it Mabel’s way”. Later she moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia opening a business in marketing pharmaceutical supplies. She was also a consultant for the courts testifying in work related disabilities.
Mabel had a good life alongside her late husband Jack. They loved playing golf and made many memorable trips to Europe. They escaped the Canadian winters at their home in Florida. Mabel will be remembered as a caring person. She would be the first to offer help to family and friends in need. She enjoyed entertaining, playing bridge with her friends, curling, and her flower gardens.
She is survived by step-son David (Doreen) Halifax. Step-grandchildren from Dave’s family are John (Marianne), Kevin (Line), Sam (Jackie), Caitlin (Chris); step-children from Judy’s family are Scott (Ryoko), Jamie (Claudia), and Allison (Jeff Garber) and step-great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sisters Lorette Peters (Wayne) Fredericton, Yvette Leblanc (late Yvon), Moncton, Marie-Mai de Varennes (Albert LeBlanc), Cap de Cocagne, Lucie Dupuis (Ulysse), Shediac; and her brothers Gerald, Montreal (late Mary), Leonard (late Florence), St-Paul, Camille (Lise) Montreal, Walter (Marie Rita) St-Antoine. Also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews
She is pre-deceased by her husband Jack Charman; step-daughter Judy (Peter), Smith's Cove; brothers Willie, Alcide, Clifford, Norman, Alderice; and sisters Mabel, Gladys, Irene, Aline
