Words cannot express how sad and sorry I am to hear of Donna’s passing, without a doubt, you were the loves of her life.
 Donna was the sweetest, kindest, most hospitable person, if you were a guest in her home it was like hotel living.  I remember the excitement of that November night in Ottawa when Ryan was born, he was the most beautiful baby, she knew it and was so proud, she was just as proud when she told me of Courtney, her daughter-in-law.  Donna had such love and respect for all, and let’s not forget the animals, as in Jason’s words, “Mom, Donna was the pretty lady who loved the animals”.
Donna, my friend, I will miss you and will always remember our nights of “midnight madness” Christmas shopping - oh, the laughter!

   I was so shocked and saddened by her passing, and I reflect on my memories of her, my friend and former colleague.
   From our first meeting at Department of Education years ago and our chat about our time at MUN, our connections to NL, and our interest in publishing and communications, to collaborating on projects while at Communications NS, she always smiled, told funny stories, and made me laugh - I enjoyed her company, her advice and her enthusiasm so much, and I miss her dearly.

To Donna's family. I've known Donna for years, both as a communications colleague and in our collective work for the Accessibility Directorate. Donna was an amazing person. She was always with a smile and had a grateful and positive attitude that could quickly change someone's entire day. I am so sad to hear of her sudden passing and can only hope that you find support and comfort in the memories you've made and the impact she's had on so many people.

My earliest memory of my “first friend” bring Donna to mind. Two little girls with long hair playing, getting into mischief, making secret worlds with special hiding places, fighting & making up. At the end of an afternoon of playing the ever patient, gentle, wonderful Mr. Barton (Donna's dad)  would see me safely across the road & then call out "watch out for the fairies". I could hear him chuckle as I ran home  as fast as I could. As young teenagers, Donna, Sharon & I , were called the Three Musketeers, by Donna’s Dad. We did all the things our parents warned us not to do (well maybe not all) but we looked out for each other & made sure we were  home by 10:30…my curfew. We spent many evenings walking the Goulds road, having  Chips at “Ward’s” and then walk home singing “Will you Still Love Me Tomorrow”.  We shared our first crushes & our first broken hearts. Sharon & I were there when Donna’s Mom died & then her second Mom, her sister Anne was taken a few years later. Looking back I don’t think we realized how devastating these losses were; perhaps we were too young to understand. Our lives took us on different paths, but whenever we were lucky enough to get together it was as if no time or distance separated us. True friends. Donna, when ever I think of you I will smile, shed a tear but know how lucky I was to have you in my life. Going to miss you, thank you for being my friend.


A beautiful memory of a warm and loving mother, wife and friend, taken on a very special  day we were blessed to share with Donna and Ken. Our deepest condolences to Ken, Ryan, Courtney and all of Donna’s family during this extremely  difficult time.  I hope you find peace through  cherished memories  and  never forget  how deeply she loved  each of you .
