With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Margaret Alice (Work) Parke, 90, of Halifax, at the Northwood Halifax Campus, 7 Centre, on April 26, 2020. She passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side. Born in Toronto, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late William Work and Irene (Dunn) Work. Margaret (Marg) is survived by her three children, Wendi Snow (James) Bedford N.S., John Parke (Terri) Bedford N.S and Sue Parke (Ray Leno) Victoria B.C., and her four beloved granddaughters Katie Roberts, Jacqueline Brushett, Melissa Parke and Kristie Parke. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years John (Jack) Simpson Parke and her two brothers and one sister, William (Bill) Work, Robert (Bob) Work, and Cathy Morley, all of Toronto.
Marg and family came to Nova Scotia in 1973 after multiple moves within Ontario and Quebec as well as abroad with her husband’s civil engineering career. No matter where she ended up, she always made a house a wonderful home for her family but Halifax was her favourite and where she insisted on planting roots. Where ever she went she made new and lasting friends with ease, was adventuresome and comical, even into her latter years. Besides her family and her dogs, Margaret loved to paint especially in acrylic and water colours and was a founding member of the Brushwork Artists group in Halifax and participated in many other groups and workshops. Her artistic talents came out in many ways besides her painting: she never had idle hands and was continually sewing, knitting, cooking and crafting. You will be missed Mom, aka Grandma Boo, and forever in our hearts. Your artwork in all of our homes will keep you close.
Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of her life will take place as soon as the Covid-19 pandemic permits. Her family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the many Northwood staff who supported and cared for Margaret since 2016, especially those on 7 Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society or to the Northwood Foundation.
