Born on May 11, 1931, in Methil, Fife, Scotland, Margie was a steadfast and compassionate individual, whose quiet dedication to her family and commitment to doing what was right defined her life. Known for her grace and beauty, she left a lasting impression on those who knew her through her strong sense of fairness and unwavering principles.
In June 1946, Margie was crowned The Rose Queen of Fife, a title that celebrated her elegance and charm. This recognition gained her local admiration and also captured the heart of Bob Rodger, her brother Don's best friend. It was the beginning of a remarkable love story. The two married on June 20, 1953, and shared 67 devoted years together before Bob’s passing in 2021.
Margie’s determination and compassion live on in her family. She is survived by her sister Sandra Beaton, her children Dr. Mark Rodger and Susan McClafferty, her grandchildren Lindsay Rodger and Dr. Amy Rodger, and her great-grandchildren Adelaide Jones, George Lefebvre, and Logan Lefebvre. She will also be missed by extended family and friends who admired her resilience, wisdom, and sense of purpose.
While Margie dedicated much of her life to being a stay-at-home mother, she also made significant contributions to her community. As her children grew, she began volunteering and eventually worked with what is now the Coverdale Justice Society, helping women in conflict with the law. This work was a reflection of her deep sense of fairness and her commitment to supporting others.
Margie found joy in creativity and connection. She was an enthusiastic cook and a gracious hostess who loved entertaining friends. She wrote short stories, painted, learned languages, and traveled the world with Bob, savoring new experiences and cultures. Throughout her life, she remained health-conscious and active, an example of her dedication to both body and mind.
Margaret will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery, Halifax, beside her beloved husband, Bob.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the team at Drummond Hall, Parkland Enhanced Care, for their compassionate care during Margie’s time there.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, in honor of Margie’s memory.
Margie’s legacy is one of determination, grace, and a steadfast commitment to doing what was right. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all those she touched throughout her life.
