Margaret “Diane” Tilley – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Diane “Pickup” Tilley, age 70, at the QEII Hospital in Halifax on June 2, 2013. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Aileen (Macdonald) and Hughie Pickup. Diane was an interior decorator for many years; she always had an eye for beautiful objects. Later in life she became a personal care worker for the elderly. Her great compassion and empathy compelled her to this profession. Diane was a kind, loving, soft spoken person who loved her family dearly and always placed their needs above her own. The outdoors was her favourite place to be; she visited and camped at almost every national park in North America. She especially enjoyed gardening in the backyard of her childhood home in Rockingham; a cat, if not more, accompanying her. Diane loved live theatre and performers such as Elvis (her king), Tom Jones, and Liberace. Her other passions were books, photography, and she could never pass a yard sale or antique store without stopping. Her best friend Barb Jardine would always be up for yet another road trip. Bliss was only attained after the ceremonial emptying of their purses. Diane will be greatly missed by her daughters Lynn (Dallas Cole) Zinck, Cherie (Brian) Hatfield; granddaughter Brooke Alexandra Hatfield. The family would like to thank the staff at the Maplestone Care Facility for all their efforts. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of NS, or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Visitation will take place in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Thursday June 6th, from 5-8 pm. Service will be at J. A. Snow Memorial Chapel on Saturday June 8, at 2 pm. A private burial will take place at a later date.
