Maria Dimitrova Uzunova

Uzunova, Maria Dimitrova- passed away at home on July 1, 2024. She was born February 12, 1948, in the town of Gotse Delchev, (then Nevrokop), Bulgaria, she was a daughter of the late Dimitar Uzunova and Velichka Uzunova.

Maria attended Yane Sandanski Polytechnic High School, Gotse Delchev and then went on to Medical University, Sofia - Class of 1974 where she received a Doctor of Dental Medicine. She worked as a Dentist in Munich Germany from 1974 -1976. Soon after she moved to Canada where she worked as a personal care worker at various nursing homes, including Fairview Villa, Northwood and Colonial Nursing Home. She met her loving partner Paul and they were together for 28 plus years. She loved classical music and dancing. Maria could speak several different languages, Bulgarian, Russian, English and Swahili. Together with Paul she loved to visit scenic places in Nova Scotia and eat at the Chicken Burger. She will be missed for her easy going nature.

She is survived by her partner, Paul O’Malley; sister Anastasiya Ivancheva; nephew, Dimitar Ivanchev; as well as several cousins.

Visitation will be on Wednesday July 10, from 2-4 and 6-8pm with a memorial service at 10am Thursday July 11, at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. The service will be livestreamed, the link will be available on the funeral home website.
