Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Margaret (Underwood) Carmichael.
Marian was a beloved wife, mother, sister, Nanny and friend. She grew up in Halifax with her parents and five siblings. She loved to recount the many childhood adventures she and her closest sisters, Elizabeth and Debbie, always had. Marian attended all girls Catholic schools until she went to St. Pat’s High School where she met the love of her life, Jack.
Marian worked as a social worker for the city of Halifax and then the Province of Nova Scotia for over 40 years. She loved her job and helping people integrate into the community gave her great pride and joy.
Marian was always active and loved to be outside. She enjoyed gardening and was blessed with a green thumb. She was always up for a walk with friends and neighbours and loved to swim in the ocean, even if it was ice cold. Marian was an avid bowler and was always ready for a good game of crib!
Marian’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family and being a Nanny to her four beloved grand children and great-granddaughter. Nanny loved taking the kids on aventures to the park and running the track at the Met field. She loved singing songs, reading books and even throwing on the pads and tending net in the driveway, whatever she needed to do to make her little ones happy.
Marian was a born caregiver, as daughter, sister, wife, mother, Nanny and friend. She was always had time to listen, offer advice and hold your hand whenever you needed it. She was always positive and had the most warm, wonderful smile. She will be deeply missed but we know she is a better place, surrounded by her parents, brothers and sisters and re-united with her beloved son David, in Heaven.
She is survived by her loving husband John; Son Christopher (Jennifer) Hingston, Lower Sackville; Daughter Jacqueline (Adrian) Côté, Upper Sackville ; Sister Deborah (Andrew) Patterson, Gaspe QC; Grandchildren Olivia (Luc) Lavers, Christian Hingston, Nate Côté, Cassie Côté and Great-Granddaughter Daisy Lavers; Sisters-in-Law Hilda, Catherine, Heather and Sharon along with many nieces and nephews.
