It is with great sadness that the family of Marie Catherine Fellows announce her passing at 89 on April 26, 2025, at Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home with her daughter, Patricia, by her side. Marie was born in Halifax on August 24, 1935 and was the eldest child of the late J. Colin and Florence (Girroir) Corbett. She is survived by her brother, John Corbett (Marilyn) and was predeceased by her sister, Colleen MacDonald (Ronald).
Marie attended St Mary’s Girls School, the Convent of the Sacred Heart and Mount Saint Vincent High School. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Saint Mary’s University and her Bachelor of Education from Mount Saint Vincent University in 1975. Marie was a dedicated teacher for many years. She taught at St. Catherine’s School and Fairview Heights Elementary School.
Marie married the love of her life Ken Fellows in 1954 and they were together for 58 years until sadly, Ken passed away in 2012. Their loving marriage brought forth four children: Joseph (Margie), Mary and Patricia. She was predeceased by her much loved son, David (Debbie). Marie was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, Noel (Janna), Sarah (John), Patrick (Genna), Daniel (Claudia), Thomas (Maddy), Matthew and Catherine. She was the great-grandmother to Breagh, Sophie, Emily, Isabelle, Charlotte and Emma. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Nancy Brown Fellows.
In Marie’s younger years, she and her extended family enjoyed many summers at the family cottage on Prospect Bay. She learned to sew from her mother and made beautiful outfits for her children and herself. Marie took great joy in furniture upholstery and quilting. She was an avid reader and had lots of fun at her monthly bridge games. She and her husband, Ken, were members of Ashburn Golf Club for several years and together they enjoyed many trips abroad.
The Fellows family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the fourth floor of Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home for their kindness and compassion. They were diligent in their care and the family appreciated how hard they worked to make Marie comfortable during her three year stay.
Like her husband, Ken, family was very important to Marie, and her love was felt by all. She will be dearly missed.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a funeral Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on May 29th, 2025 at 1:00pm. To leave an online message of condolence please visit www.jasnowfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home or Hope Cottage.
