TOBIN, Marie Frances— It is with great sadness, we , the family of Marie must announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister on August 12, 2012, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, with her family at her side. Marie was born on February 23, 1924, in Halifax. She was a proud mother of Judy Tobin Lawrence (Carl), Debbie Tobin Scanlan (Jim); grandmother of Michelle Mackintosh (Todd), Ross Lawrence (Jodi), Becky Lytle (Jeff), and Laura Yetman, and great-grandmother of Owen Lytle, Parker Lytle, and Toby Lawrence. She is also survived by her sister, Geraldine (Bruce Turner); sisters-in-law, Lillian Umlah and Denise Earle, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is now reunited in heaven with her late husband, Harry William Tobin; mother, Mary Earle; father, James Earle; sisters, Marion Vennor, Vera Power, Mary Craig, and brothers, James and William Earle. Marie was a devoted, founding member of St. Michael's Parish in her community of Spryfield and an active member of the Catholic Women's League. She was an executive secretary by profession and in her retirement became an accomplished artist whose oil paintings have sold around the world. Marie was always ahead of fashion and will be remembered for loving and finding a good sale. She was the beloved soul and matriarch of the family and was eternally and lovingly involved in all aspects of our lives. There will be a visitation for friends and family in J.A. Snow Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Father Frank Pellerin, will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Parish followed by a reception. A private committal in Gate of Heaven Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia and The Arthritis Society. The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff on 8.2 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, the staff at Crowell's Pharmacy, as well as to Dr. Hugh Matheson and Dr. William Acker for their continued care. Marie "Nanny" will always be remembered for her wise counsel, humour, and devotion to everyone she loved. Her passing will leave a void that, in time, will be filled with many fond memories.
