It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother Marion Gertrude Tizard, 101, on June 21, 2023 in the home of her daughter. She was the daughter of Maurice and Elsie Spidell and is predeceased by her husband, Gerald and 8 siblings, Dorothy Hatcher, Wilbert, Margaret Nash, Winnie Hogan, Ellen Smith, John, Robert, and Douglas. She is survived by her loving children, Dianne Glazebrook, Carolyn Oxner, Geraldine (Carl) Weston, Stephen (Marlene) and Sally (Jack) Dunn; and grandchildren, Mark (Kathie), Stephen (Pam), Christopher, Andrew (Ali), Rebecca (Mark), Charlene, Matthew, Courtney (Liam), Jackelyn (Armel), Krista (Ed); and 14 great-grandchildren, Ben, Tim, Jonah, Haley, Zachary, Emily, Ty, Sarah, Caitlyn, Gabriel, Izaak, Myelle, Drew, Joseph. She is also survived by her sister Shirley Bouchard and brother Maurice (John Jackowski) Spidell.
She spent many years of service, volunteered with the Children’s Breakfast program in Dartmouth, served on the Ladies’ Guild of St Luke’s Church and in her latter years was a member of Queen Esther Chapter, Eastern Star. During her 62 years as a member of the Eastern Star she held many offices particularly Chapter secretary in Westwood and Ruth Chapters. She also served both chapters as Worthy Matron, was District Deputy Grand Matron and served twice as a Grand Chapter committee member. She worked at Ruby Mason’s Dress Shop in her “mid life” years after her children left the “nest”.
Through her long life she enjoyed playing Bridge; lawn bowling with Gerald at the Dartmouth Lawn Bowling Club; and curling at the Dartmouth Curling Club, where she was on the Ladies Seniors team that represented her club at the Provincial championship. Marion was a very accomplished seamstress and spent many late nights wrestling with volumes of tulle to complete costumes for the entire ballet class which her young daughters were members of and still found time to volunteer as a coach for her daughter’s softball team.
Marion was reserved, had an independent spirit and was always kind…a very gentle soul. But most of all she loved her family, which love grew as her family grew. She will be sorely missed by all who were so strongly connected to her. Thank you so much Mom for all you did for so many of us. You were one amazing woman. God bless you. A funeral will take place at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Dartmouth on Tuesday, June 27th at 2:00pm.
