It is with heavy hearts that we announce the celebration of life for our Mother and wife, passing away at the QEII Hospital on April 12, 2014. She was the only child of Dick and Elizabeth Coppin Welly. Born in Halifax, and at an early age, moved to Prospect where she grew up and always continued to have a lifelong love for the Village.
Mom was very involved in the community and worked very diligently for the Girl Guides of Canada, rising to the level of District Commissioner. We knew when Girl Guide Cookie Week arrived, as the entrance to our home lined with many boxes of cookies.
As an early member, Mom was very involved with the Dartmouth Handcrafters Guild. The annual certification of quality crafts to be sold at the Dartmouth Sportsplex Christmas Craft Show, as something Mom looked forward to and enjoyed the participation.
Involvement with the R.H.G.N.S. and annual trip to the “Happy Hookers” was an event Mom always looked forward to each year. The camaraderie of meeting with the ladies and sharing their hooking skills was always a highlight.
The “Red Hatters” didn’t realize what they were in for when Mom joined this group. The outings and gatherings were a large interest for her and an opportunity to have fun.
With her husband Paul, as members of the CCB, they organized the annual CCB Sports Weekend. Participants always had a great time and were very appreciative of their efforts.
Mom was very involved with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and in particular Hand and Hand Store, as Chair of the Board of Directors. The desire to construct a new building was her passion, which came to fruition several years ago.
She was active in Parish life at St. Michael’s on the Pastoral Council as member and Chairperson and with the Annual fall fair. Also serving as Eucharistic Minister Coordinator and/or marriage preparation courses.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; sons; Pat (Ellen), Barry (Doris), Brad (Tina); daughter, Marlene (Leonard) Oakley. Grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Pat, Jill, Jessica, and John; six great grandchildren, as well as, several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, as well as, first husband, Allan P. Brown.
