

72, of Lower Sackville. With sadness we announce the passing of Maud Yates on April 30, after a brief battle with cancer. She was a wonderful, trusted, and beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend and her absence will be felt by all who knew her. Born in Halifax April 23, 1941, Maud was the eldest daughter of George and Effie (Moulton) Banfield. Maud worked as Comptroller for the Arcade Ladies’ Shoppe for nearly two decades, followed by 17 years as General Manager of Terra Marine Environmental where, among other duties, she assumed a leadership role in the 1998 Swissair disaster efforts. Maud loved keeping busy, enjoying time at the New Ross family cottage and gardening, and was a faithful soldier of The Salvation Army Halifax Citadel Community Church. Maud is survived by her husband of 51 years, Eric Yates, of Lr. Sackville; daughters Barbara (Derek) Bywater and Carolyn Yates, both of Ont.; sons Robert (Anita) Yates, B.C., and; Darrell Yates, Lr. Sackville; grandchildren Cory, Andrew, Cameron, Nina, Samantha, and Lindsey; sister, Pauline (Roy) Fryer, Halifax; brothers Maj. Harry (Elaine) Banfield (Ret.), Ont.; Wayne (Carol) Banfield, Waverly; Norman (Lucy) Banfield, Sask.; Wilfred (Beverly) Banfield, B.C.; Fraser (Yvonne) Banfield and Thomas (Shirley) Banfield, both of Lr. Sackville; three great-grandchildren, and; many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place with visitation today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m and service Saturday, May 4, 2 p.m. all in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Family interment in Pleasant Hill Memorial Cemetery, Lr. Sackville, Captains Tim and Krista Andrews officiating. Special thanks to daughter Barb, PSW; sisters-in-law Win Browning, RN and Yvonne Banfield, RN (Ret.), and; the QE II Palliative care team.
