

COVERT, Mildred Ruth (MacPherson) – 97, passed away on June 1, 2010 at Drummond Hall, Clayton Park, Halifax. Born May 26, 1913 in Windsor, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Ethel Blanche (Herring) and the late Alexander Ross MacPherson. Mildred completed a teaching diploma at Normal College in Truro and graduated in 1941 from the Children’s Hospital School of Nursing. Mildred was also an accomplished pianist and organist.
In 1940, Mildred married Arthur Courtland Covert and raised 4 children on Third Street in Halifax. She worked as an office manager at A.C. Covert Ltd. and tirelessly assisted her husband as the business grew. Mom had a strong Christian faith and her daily Bible readings gave her strength and guidance. Mildred’s life was marked by a keen intelligence, selflessness and dedication to her family. She spent much of her life caring for family and friends whenever they needed her. Her matriarchal role in the Covert Family will be missed.
Mildred is predeceased by her husband Arthur, sisters Helen Noiles, Edith Forsythe, brothers Harper (in infancy), Owen (in infancy), Murray, Elmer, and Ralph. She is survived by her children, Alan (Mary Jane Hartt), Bob (Dorothy Ade), Ruth, all of Halifax, Beth Good (Christopher), Edmonton, Alberta., grandchildren Jeff Covert, Tim Covert, Laurie Caryi, Chris Covert, Sarah Covert, Deborah Mert, Melissa Good, and Caroline Covert, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Muriel Paddock (Selkirk Man), Myrtle Campbell (Stanley, N.S.) and an extended family of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Lorne Marsh as well as the staff of Drummond Hall, Clayton Park, and the Adelaide Respite Inn in Waverley for their kindness toward our mother.
Cremation has taken place. At Mildred’s request, there will be no formal service at this time.
