With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you of the passing of our beloved aunt, Nancy. She peacefully departed this world on June 28, 2023, at the age of 79, leaving behind a profound void. Nancy was truly a kind and loving soul, whose gentle presence touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Born and raised in Halifax, Nancy led a simple yet fulfilling life. She had an insatiable curiosity and spent countless hours using her iPad, iPhone, or Google Home to delve into various topics that piqued her interest. Whenever Nancy encountered something new, she would diligently research and share her discoveries with others, often via text messages. Her thirst for knowledge was unwavering, and it brought her great joy to unlock the mysteries of the world.
Nancy had a deep affinity for the weekend paper, eagerly working through puzzles and crosswords until completion. Immersed in these activities, she would disappear, content in her own little world. She also held within her a wealth of knowledge about our family history, making her an invaluable resource. It saddens us that her passing also marks the end of her captivating stories, but the memories she imparted will be cherished and passed down through generations.
Known for her generosity and unwavering dedication to her family, Nancy had a heart of gold. Those who were fortunate enough to work alongside her during her 50-year retail career regarded her as loyal, honest, and reliable. Though she never married, Nancy had a loving family who will deeply miss her. She leaves behind three nephews, Gerald Hann, Arthur Newbury, and Donald Newbury, and three nieces, Ardith Offman, Jennifer Hann, and Cheryl Burns. In addition, she was a proud great-aunt and great-great-aunt to several nieces and nephews. Among all her loved ones, Nancy shared a special bond with Christine McNeil (Gerald Hann), whom she affectionately referred to as her "niece by marriage." It seems fitting that Christine was by Nancy’s bedside when she departed this world, as she lived her life quietly and without complaint. In the past year she also forged solid relationships with her in-home care staff, especially Madonna and Kat.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Arthur Newbury, her sisters, Barbara and Judy, and her only brother, Kenneth. The loss of her beloved sister Judy four months prior hit her especially hard, and it could be said that she ultimately succumbed to a broken heart because of this immense grief.
While Nancy may no longer be with us physically, her memory will forever reside in the hearts of all who knew her. As per her wishes, she has been cremated and a private internment service will be conducted for immediate family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you honour Nancy's memory by purchasing a book for yourself or someone you love and taking the opportunity to explore something new. Alternatively, a donation to SPCA is a nice way to remember Nancy.
Rest in peace, dear Nancy. Your kind soul will be eternally cherished in our hearts.
