It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Joseph Greenwood, age 94, on April 24, 2026, in Halifax. Born in Halifax, Norman was the son of the late William Everett and Beatrice (Millard) Greenwood and grew up in Spryfield.
Norm was a devoted husband to his wife of 64 years, Edna (Williams) Greenwood, and a proud and loving father to daughter Anne-Marie Watters (Glenn) and son Trevor Greenwood (Melanie). He was a cherished grandfather to Lauren Mackintosh (Tyson Aalders); Ryan Mackintosh (Lara); Evan, Julia and Christian Greenwood; and a great grandfather to Hayden Mackintosh and Scottie Aalders, all of whom brought him immense joy. He is also survived by brothers David (Jean) Greenwood, Ottawa and Gordon (Bridgewater), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters Bertha, Marie, Edith, Marjorie and brothers Leo, Harold, George and Clarence.
Norm spent his entire working career with Sears Canada, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly nature. He retired as a Group Merchandise Manager in 1988. In retirement, he found pleasure in selling books at flea markets, where he enjoyed meeting people and sharing stories. He also gave his time generously as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.
Norm was a dedicated member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, Holy Apostles Parish, Tantallon. He served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister and helping to count the weekly collection.
Family was the center of Norm's life and his greatest passion. He loved spending time with those closest to him and took great pride in their lives and accomplishments. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball, golf and curling. He was a lover of puzzles and card games, taking immense pleasure in trouncing his grandchildren at Skip-Bo. He loved to watch sports both in person and on TV, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays. He enjoyed travelling, taking many road trips across Canada and the US with his family.
He will be fondly remembered for his warm sense of humor and his love of teasing and joking with those around him -always bringing laughter to family and friends.
Special thanks are extended to his long time, dedicated physician Dr. Robert Scovil and to the compassionate staff on the Palliative Care floor at the QEll Hospital during Norm's final days.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, Scholars Road, Upper Tantallon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Norm's name may be made to St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church (Holy Apostles Parish) or a charity of your choice.
