It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Norman Antonios Nahas, on March 12, 2021.
Norman was born in Kfar Habou, Lebanon in 1937. A goldsmith by trade, he immigrated to Canada in 1963, where he established a successful business chain, Norman’s Market in the early 1970’s. Known for his compassionate, hard-working and honest demeanor, Norman later
continued his entrepreneurship, owning several businesses in the food industry.
He was the leader and pillar of the Nahas family whose warm heart and infectious smile touched many. The love he had for his family was undeniable. Norman helped immigrate all of his siblings to Canada and continued to support them as they established their new lives in Halifax.
He was always there to offer advice and enjoyed sharing stories about his adventurous life experiences, which many learned from and will always cherish.
Norman helped spearhead the establishment of the St. Antonios Church, where he was a devout member since its inception in 1980. He lived a truly Christian life by example and raised his family with the morals and values of his faith. He was thankful to God for his blessings, especially his family, who were his greatest accomplishment, his absolute pride and joy.
He will be forever loved and remembered by his loving wife of 50 years, Ibtissam and his children, Antoinette Abboud (Antoine), Caroline Jarmash (Fouad), Julie Habib (Victor), Mary Swaita (Daniel), Antonios Nahas (Rita); his siblings, Saada George (Saadallah) Lebanon, Naomi Haidar (Wissam), Salma Hanna (Issam), Leo Nahas (Hala), Bassam Nahas (Linda). He is predeceased by his father, Antonios Nahas, mother, Mariam Mekdissy, brothers, Talat Nahas (Najat), and Abraham Nahas (Vera). Jido (grandfather) Norman will always be remembered and cherished by his 13 grandchildren Kiauna Haddad (Joseph), Elie and Kaiya Habib, Giselle, Migel and Gabrielle Abboud, Dominique, Alexandra and Nicholas Jarmash, Kyle and Zachary Swaita, and Nina and Norman Jr. Nahas. His great love and strong faith will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
He will be remembered as a true man of honour, faith, courage, and most of all, love.
“I AM the Resurrection and the life: he who believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die”
