Patrick Paul Flemming

Pat was born in Halifax on June 15, 1935 to the late Lawrence and Mary Flemming. Growing up in the north-end of Halifax, he was a go-getter from a young age. He delivered newspapers and ran errands for the local businessmen. At age 15 he fibbed about his age to get an interview at the dockyard, saying he was 16. He got the job, but felt guilty and went back to tell them he was only 15. He was told to report for work the next day, and spent the next 42 years working as an apprentice in the Gyro shop initially, then deciding to better himself, eventually becoming the gyro/electronic shop foreman.

Pat had two key priorities in his life, family and faith. His family was his joy. Edith was the love of his life, and they were married for 69 years, raising 7 children. He was a fantastic husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Faith was also a priority for Pat. He was a member of St Paul's church in Herring Cove, volunteering with the church and doing readings at Sunday mass. He worked on the cemetery committee and also spent many years volunteering for the St Vincent de Paul Society in Spryfield, eventually becoming the Director for a number of years. He was a huge believer in helping the less fortunate, and sponsored many children in 3rd world countries.

Pat was also an avid sports person. He played softball himself, and coached both minor hockey and softball. He was a huge Toronto Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Penguins fan.

Pat is survived by his wife Edith Rita (nee Smith), children: Janice Turner (Tom Hall) , Joanne Flemming, Philip (Irene) Flemming, Christine Flemming, Melinda Murphy, Stephen (Debbie) Flemming, Susan (Eldon) Ellsworth, 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Pat was predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Mary, his brothers Jerry and Johnny, and his sisters Betty Hunt and Audrey Welsh.

There will be a funeral mass on Tuesday, December 2nd at 11am at Stella Maris Parish, 14 St. Michaels Ave, Spryfield, NS.
