Although soft spoken, Paul had a lot to say and loved catching up with his good friends made through his four decades of hard work in the construction industry, which brought him from his native Antigonish to Alberta, Ontario and finally back home to Nova Scotia where he raised two daughters with his wife Mary.
Paul was a lifelong learner which instilled the value of education in his girls. He worked to complete his education as an adult, was a well-read amateur historian, self-taught astronomer, photographer and was most recently becoming well-versed in the art of being a Grandpa.
He is survived by his wife and partner-in-everything, Mary (Cassidy) MacGillivray; Daughters, Sarah and Catherine (Jason McCallum) and granddaughter, Clara McCallum; Mother in law, Teresa Cassidy; siblings, Ronald MacGillivray (Melinda), Frances MacLean (Greg) and Peter MacGillivray (Maryanne) and many nieces and nephews across the country, his grand-puppy, Ozzy, and dear friends he built a lifetime of memories with.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary MacGillivray, Father-in-law, John Cassidy and Brother in law, Phillip Cassidy.
Paul’s family would like to thank the staff of the QEII, in particular the nurses and doctors of Unit 8.3, for their exceptional compassion and care.
Visitation will take place Thursday, June 8, 6 – 9 p.m. at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral service is to be held Friday, June 9, 10:30 a.m. at Saint Benedict Church, 45 Radcliffe Dr.
