It is with profound sadness that the family of Peter Francis Dauphinee announce his peaceful passing on June 13th, 2024. Peter was born and raised in Halifax, the son of the late Chester and Rita (MacIntosh) Dauphinee.
Peter known best as “Big Pete” is survived by his best friend and partner in life Karen Dauphinee (Jones), his daughter Lisa (Jason) and son Peter (Holly) and by his 5 grandchildren, Noah, Charlotte, Isaac, Bella and Max. He is also survived by his brother Ronnie, nephew Troy, nieces Leah and Leeanne, and many cousins.
Peter was a proud and dedicated firefighter from 1968 to 1998. The camaraderie he shared with his fellow firefighters brought him deep fulfillment, joy and endless laughter. Peter loved his career, and he was proud of his profession. His tales of shenanigans in the fire house were legendary and will not be forgotten by his loved ones. When Peter retired from the Halifax Fire Department he was District Chief of Fire Prevention.
As a retiree Peter drove cab for Casino Taxi for many years. His thoughtful and talkative nature meant passengers learned about his city’s highlights, as well as about his adventures as a firefighter and family man. Peter spread kindness to each passenger he drove.
Peter’s passion for world history and sports including the Mooseheads, NASCAR, and of course his Alabama Crimson Tide Football, was evident to all who knew him. He enjoyed his yearly trips to New Hampshire with the boys to watch NASCAR and was passionate about his antique MG convertible. He loved watching his children and then his grandchildren perform, play sports and was always amazed by their abilities. Peter loved spending time with family and friends. He was a storyteller and he had finely tuned the art of reminiscing. Peter’s sense of humor brought joy and comfort to many when it was needed.
A celebration of Peter’s life will take place at Snow’s Funeral Home on 339 Lacewood Drive on June 24th at 2 pm and visitation will occur on June 23 from 5 pm – 8 pm. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Halifax Fire Historical Society.
