It is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of my mother, Reta Thelma Williams (93) on September 19, 2014, in Halifax. She was a daughter of the late John A. and Charlotte Frizzell. Reta is survived by her daughter, Donna-Kaye Williams; brother, Jack Frizzell (Kay); sisters-in-law, Iona Jennex and Noreen (Frankie) Thomson as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Captain Donald Williams (2004); brother, Flying Officer (RCAF) Lloyd Frizzell (1944); sister, Joyce Giberson; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Brothers and Josephine Bayers. Reta was born in Truro on March 9, 1921, and later moved with her family to Halifax. In 1942, she met and later married Donald Williams. They began their life together in Armdale.
Mother and dad both loved cats so there was always at least one to be pampered and spoiled. After retiring from Sears, Reta continued to lead a very active life. She enjoyed baking and often made special dishes for Hope Cottage, fundraisers and teas. Mother was renowned for her biscuits, lobster rolls and rum cakes. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for over fifty years, an avid bridge player, bowler, and shopper. Every season meant new clothes, shoes and purses. Mother was a very fashionable lady! She also enjoyed travelling to Florida and Europe with dad and their friends.
One of Reta’s most cherished possessions was her “Soul” companion “Cindy”. They were best friends and you would never see one without the other. They both enjoyed their “Special Sweets” together. Mother was a beautiful person and I will miss her deeply. A celebration of her life will be held in J.A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, (902-455-0531) on Friday, September 26 at 11 am with a reception to follow.
A thank you to St. Vincent’s Nursing Home for their support and care on Mother’s last journey. A thanks also to her faithful visitors and the special personal caregivers. Thank you as well to my friends and relations for their kindness and tremendous support during the past four years.
Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Reta may be made to the Bide Awhile Animal Shelter or Feed Nova Scotia.
