Rhoda Alice Anderton

“Gran” as she was affectionately known, passed on February 8, 2023 at the QEII after a brief illness. Born in Loch Carron, Ross-Shire, Scotland, she was the youngest daughter of the late Isabel and Murdo MacLeod. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, William Anderton and both her sister, Anne (MacLeod) Michie and brother, Ken MacLeod. She is survived by her sons Rod (Kim); Richard; and daughter Cindy (Brian) as well as grandchildren Luke; Sarah (Rae), Brittany (Rafaa), Caitlin (Andrew) and Richelle (Tyler) and great granddaughter, Keira.

She grew up in Scotland and met her future husband, Bill, in Morecambe, England. She immigrated to Canada in 1957 with her 3-month old baby, Rod. They raised a family and eventually moved to Saskatchewan, then New Brunswick and finally Nova Scotia. She loved to travel, camp, garden and was a wonderful cook, always making homemade bread, buns and other goodies. She had a wicked sense of humor and was an avid reader. She doted on her grandchildren, and they were a huge part of her life.

Special thanks is extended to the amazing staff and Dr. Swift of Maplestone Enhanced Nursing Home, and her family doctor of many years, Dr. Susan Haddad. In addition, the family would like to say a big heartfelt thank you to Dr. Ashley Robinson of the QEII as well as the nurses who provided great care and compassion. Your advice and kindness will not be forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 2 p.m. at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS.
