Loiselle, Richard Theodore – It is with profound sadness and grief that we announce the sudden death of Richard T. (Dick) Loiselle on November 1, 2010 at the QE11 Health Sciences Centre. His devoted wife, Linda, and sister-in-law, Louise were at his side.
Dick was born in Manchester, NH on March 9, 1938 to Pauline (Descheneau) and the late Theodore A. Loiselle. He is survived by his wife Linda M. (Vassalo), son Kevin (Kathy Bryden) and their children, Aimy (Ian Brown), Alex and Adam; daughters Kerri (Carl Gibbons) and Nicole (Vance) Alexander and soon-to-be born granddaughter, Blythe. Also surviving are his mother, Pauline, sisters Rita (Ronnie) Pinard, Ruth Williams, Terry (Davis) Clouthier, Becky (John) Plichta, Rhonda (Brian) Laughlin and brothers, Ronnie (Betty), Raymond (Debbie) and Bobby (Muriel) along with many nieces and nephews. Dick enjoyed a special relationship with his sisters- and brothers-in law, Louise (Hector) Comeau and Matthew, Lorraine Vassalo (Stewart Creaser) and Lincoln, Lonnie (Linda Chyz) and Cori, Mindy and Lacey and Leo (Karen), Ricky and Darren and Lisa.
Dick was a proud husband, father, son, friend, athlete, coach, counsellor and mentor. Sports were the hallmark of life. He was a US Marine and a professional athlete, having played for the Braves organization prior to moving to Canada. He was very grateful for the opportunities he enjoyed as a result of his athletic abilities and, in turn, used those talents to benefit those who were less advantaged, especially disabled athletes. For this he was recognized and lauded nationally and internationally. He was the proud recipient of many awards, among them the King Clancy Award, The Rick Hansen Award and the Stoke Mandeville Games Federation Special Achievement Award. He touched the lives of countless individuals throughout the world. Dick had many friends, far too numerous to mention individually, who meant the absolute world to him. You all made his life worth living with your many acts of friendship, caring and love.
Visitation will take place from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4 at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive. Memorial donations may be made to the QE 11 Foundation, Feed Nova Scotia or any charity of choice. Family flowers only. Please visit www.jasnowfuneralhome.com.
The world is a better place because Dick lived and his loss will be felt without measure. Rest in peace.
