
Fitzgerald, Richard Francis – 90, Halifax, passed away on January 24th. Born in Queensport, Nova Scotia. He was the son of the late Matthew and Cora (Lukeman) Fitzgerald. Richard is survived by his sons, Donald (Colleen Graham), Fredericton; Keith (Susan Goldie), Halifax; and Paul (Fabia Toso), Rothesay; grandchildren Patrick, John, Lauren, Karen, Samuel, Julia, Molly and Matthew; and his sister Monica.
He was predeceased by his wife Minnie (Digdon) (2004), grandchildren Richard (1984) and Michael (2008); his brothers Ambrose, P. Kenneth, Jerome, Clarence, Duncan, Herman; sisters Mary Margaret and Johanna (Josie).
Richard enlisted in the Canadian Army on October 25, 1940 and served with the 4th Canadian Armoured Division until his discharge on January 28, 1946. In civilian life he worked for the Department of National Defence, at the Dockyard, Stadacona and Windsor Park.
He was a long-time member of St. Stephen’s Parish and a veteran member of their St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Visitation will take place at J. A. Snow Funeral Home 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm on Friday January 27, 2012. A funeral service will be held on Saturday 1pm at St. Stephen’s Church, 6032 Normandy Drive, Halifax with Father Lloyd O’Neill officiating. Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
