Rick - Husband, best friend and soulmate to Karen, passed away on June 14, 2025. Rick was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick, on July 16, 1951, to loving parents Cliff and Doris (Sherar) Trites and older brother Gary, all of whom are predeceased.
Rick was a quiet and studious boy, with a mischievous sense of adventure. These qualities stayed with him all his life. His logical thinking and curious nature drew him to a career as a Professional Engineer, having received his Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick.
Rick was well-respected in his profession, generously giving his time, and often being sought out for his expertise. He strove for excellence in his varied consulting roles, both nationally and internationally.
Rick enjoyed nature - identifying trees along a walking trail, gazing at the night sky through his telescope, and laughing at the antics of backyard birds and squirrels. He was humble, never wanting a lot of fuss. Rick lived his values of honesty, integrity, kindness and good humour.
In addition to Karen, Rick’s loss will be felt by his uncle and aunt Michael Sherar and Elizabeth Delorey (Halifax) and brother-in-law Dan Burke (Toronto), who gave their love and support during Rick’s illness, as well as Michael Burke and his family, and Rick’s many friends and colleagues.
Recently, in retirement, Rick battled Dementia with Lewy Bodies. Rick’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to his care team. Your expertise, compassion and empathy eased a difficult journey.
Thank you also to J.A. Snow Funeral Home and Dartmouth Memorial Gardens for facilitating arrangements on Rick’s passing.
Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a later date.
Donations in Rick’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
A good man, who led
