

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother surrounded by her family. Born in Halifax to the late Mary and Gerald Delaney. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family.
Rita was a member of the Sackville Legion and the Sackville Seniors Club for many years. She also helped organize one of the first girls’ hockey teams in the 70s. She will be remembered by many as the lady with the cowbell at many hockey games at the Centennial Arena or any arena her children were playing.
Rita is survived by daughters, Debbie Briand (Doug), Patricia Tanner (Victor), and Dawn Simmons (Keith); sons, Robert (Debbie), Kenneth (Winnie), Gerald Jr., Lloyd (Debbie), Tom (Dena). She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren and 13 great, great grandchildren.
Rita was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Gerald, daughters, Gail, Barbara, and Beverley, and by grandson, Matthew.
Visitation to take place on Wednesday, April 12 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. A Celebration of Rita’s Life will be held on Thursday, April 13 at 11:00 am, also at J.A. Snow Funeral Home.
Special thanks to Nurse Sherry and all the staff at Arborstone Enhanced Care, to her brother-in-law, Robert, for always looking out for her and keeping her company while she watched her Maple Leafs’ play hockey and to Joan for always being there for mom and the family.
