Robert, known to everyone as “Bob”, was born on February 15, 1952, in Summerside, PEI. He died on December 23, 2025, peacefully and without any pain, in palliative hospice care after a brief illness in his adopted homeland of Belize. He had resided and worked in San Pedro Town, Belize, for more than 20 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Murray and Minnie (Locke) Hamilton (Truro, Nova Scotia), his older brother, Wayne (Brookside, Nova Scotia), and his younger sister, Betty Jean (High River, Alberta). He is survived by: brother, Gordon, sister-in-law, Rose, and their sons, Arran (Amethyst) and their children (Maddux, Jaxon, and Weston), Harris (Natasha), and Evyn (Nicole); sister-in-law, Gerri, and her and Wayne’s sons, Andrew (Hilary) and Sean (Carmen); and brother-in-law, Donald MacMillan, and his and Betty Jean’s children, Calum (Steph), Sheila (Kate), and Sean (Kim) and their daughter (Aria Jean).
Bob lived his life how he wanted, filled with an exceptional range of experiences and careers that resulted in so many stories to share with anyone who had the time to listen. In his younger years, he spent many days canoeing and fly-fishing throughout the Maritimes. In his later years in Belize, he would frequently head out onto the ocean with friends in his cherished dual-outboard boat to scuba dive, snorkel and fish, ending with a cook-out on a remote beach to enjoy the day’s catch. Then, he would return to his 3-story house that he had designed and built, relaxing on his rooftop patio to watch the sunsets over the lagoon. As his health declined, he would start each day by walking up to his patio to watch the sun rise over the ocean, telling everyone that this was his paradise.
Bob loved to entertain wherever he lived, hosting dinners for his many friends and showing his incredible self-taught talents as a baker, cook and bartender. To support his multitude of parties and dinners, he worked as a staff accountant (Irving Oil and Bank of Montreal, Charlottetown), waiter/bartender (Seahorse Tavern, Halifax), derrick hand (on Alberta oil rigs), municipal administrator (West Royalty, PEI), CEO (PEI Hospital Association), restaurant owner (Café Soleil, Charlottetown), computer programmer (CGI.com-Halifax), environmental resort head chef (Belize), and entrepreneur / realtor (Coral Beach Realty, San Pedro Town, Belize).
His family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City for their gentle and caring treatment of Bob. As well, we are indebted to the kindness of the staff at My Cielo Blue care home in Belize for taking such good care of Bob in his final weeks. His final months were assisted by the invaluable and extraordinary compassion of a former client, Daryl Jones, who selflessly intervened to manage his local affairs and to get him the medical treatment that he needed as his health deteriorated this fall. Bob was so fortunate to have lived in his own house until December 1st, when he was moved to hospital and then palliative care.
Bob was known for his generosity, so we encourage you to help out a friend or stranger or a charity of your choice.
There are no funeral arrangements at this time.
