Robert (Bob) died peacefully in the early morning of November 25th at the QEII Health Centre having celebrated his 82nd birthday on April 14, 2016. His soul mate and beloved wife Molly Salsman predeceased him in 2013. He leaves behind his eight children Drew (Janet), Martin (Nancy), Gabrielle (Don), Janelle (Ken), Rob (Tammy), Buffy (Richard), D’Arcy, and Sean. Grandchildren: Ryan, Erica, Katie, Erin, Eric, Alexandra, Thomas, Ailish, Finley and Max. Bob was the eldest son of D’Arcy and Gertrude Sullivan of Halifax and is survived by his sister Dale Godsoe and predeceased by his brothers Wayne and Denis.
Bob loved horses and every year he helped organize the Heritage Championship Horse Show in Windsor and was a great supporter of the Eastern Stock Horse Association. But his life never felt complete without a dog by his side, and any dog lucky enough to be there was bound to get lots of cookies.
Bob was an avid sailor and curler and was an incredible supporter and readily volunteered in all his children’s sports and activities. In more recent years he was a dedicated volunteer at St. Mary’s Basilica and Pier 21
Robert was a natural born salesman and President of C.E.Choat & Company for over 30 years. After he “retired” he worked in the Real Estate industry.
Bob loved to sit down for coffee or a glass of red wine and talk with friends old and new. He knew every detail of the history of Halifax and-it sometimes seemed-every detail about its inhabitants, especially those to whom he could claim a relation, no matter how distant.
Genealogy was his passion in his later years and he spent time in Cape Breton, Antigonish, and as far away as British Columbia and connected with many people across Canada and the United States collecting information about his family history on both sides. The end product was four books of family history that will be a treasure for future generations of Sullivans.
Visitation will be on Monday from 5 to 8 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral service to be held Tuesday November 29th at 2:30 pm at Saint Mary’s Basilica on Spring Garden Road. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the QEII Foundation, St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica Foundation or Hope for Wildlife.
