

It is with great sadness we announce the death of our dear friend, Ronald Paul Herold on Wednesday, July 3rd,2024 at Arborstone in Halifax. He was born July 19,1939 in Halifax, N.S. to the late Vera (Chambers) and Paul Herold.
His school years were in Bedford and Halifax. He began working at a young age of 14 yrs. at Purdy Brothers Shipyard from 1953- April 1962; worked from April 1962 -January 1966 at Construction Equipment Co. Ltd.; worked from February 1966 – January 1984 with Foundation Dockyard in BC and Halifax, working in the tool cribs and warehouses until his retirement in 1994. In his younger years Ron was a scout leader in Bedford and Northend of Halifax from 1969-1977.
Ron was an active member of Hope United Church, Halifax. Shipmate Ron had a Big Respect for the R.C.N.A. Peregrine Branch, Halifax. He belonged to the I.O.O.F. Mystic Lodge No. #18, Halifax where he served as Chaplain and Vice Grand. Shipmate Ron also belonged to Canada’s Naval Memorial ship H.M.C.S. Sackville as a trustee. Being a trustee of the H.M.C.S. Sackville meant a lot to Ron and he was forever talking about how good the members of the trustees were to him. He had a very extensive collection of naval memorabilia that he donated to the H.M.C.S. Sackville Museum prior to entering Arborstone. He liked to help people whenever he could. If you needed something done, he was your man. For many years Ron was a very vital part of United Memorial United Church, Halifax until its amalgamation in 2016 with Edgewood Oxford (now Hope United). Ron will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Survived by special friends Bob and Nancy Hayter and their family; Ruthie (Stephen) Matheson, Adam, and Sarah (Adam) Beauchamp and 4 grandchildren (Jenna, Kelsey, Raymond and Allison). He always treated them like family. He was predeceased by his parents, and half brother.
We would like to thank the caring staff at Arborstone Enhanced Care facility and Dr. Sophie Couture, who over the past 2 years have taken exceptional care of Ron while he had resided there.
Cremation has taken place and Ron is resting at J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, with visitation from 5-8pm July 17th, 2024. Funeral will be Thursday, July 18th, 2024@ 11am at Hope United Church, 3055 Connaught Avenue, Halifax with Rev. Dr. Kathleen Anderson officiating. One day before his 85th birthday that he had been looking forward to. A reception will follow in the hall.

Burial will be at sea at a future date as per Ron’s wishes.
