Roy Douglas Sampson

It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roy Douglas Sampson on Sunday, March 6, three weeks shy of his 94 birthday. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Roy enjoyed a successful career at J & M Murphy’s Ltd where he worked until his retirement after 62 years. Throughout the years, it would be rare that Roy went anywhere without running into someone he knew from his days at Murphy’s, it was clear he was well respected in his industry. His charming personality and warm smile made it easy to like him. One can only imagine the pleasure he took when he was often mistaken for 80’s talk show host, Phil Donahue.

One of 11 brothers, Roy grew up with modest means; however, with grit, determination, and a strong work ethic, he relished a great career and wonderful family life. Along with his wife of 70 years, he raised three children and leaves behind fond memories of the family gatherings and vacations taken over the years. With a love of reading, especially historical biographies, Roy was well informed and always up for a conversation on just about any topic. He loved to golf and was close to shooting his age the last time he was out. Always keen to learn and expand his skill set, he recently took over duties as full time cook and housekeeper supporting Mom when her eyesight diminished. He was quite proud to list his daily accomplishments around laundry and cooking to anyone who would listen. A devout Catholic, he always took great comfort in his faith.

Dad will be dearly missed by his soulmate and the love of his life, Shirley (Creighton) and his children, Greg (Marian), David (Shirley) and Judy Bishop (Richard), his grandchildren Jonathan (Juli), Tristan (Natasha) Elise, Alex and Alison (Neils) and great- grandchildren who he adored. Also left to mourn is his brother Donnie Sampson (Victoria BC).

Arrangements are under the care of Snows Funeral Home. A Funeral Service and burial will take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
