Born in Truro NS, Ruth Lillian Lowe, was the daughter of Seaman Bentley and Irene Grant Bentley of Truro and Halifax. Ruth is predeceased by sister Alvis, and dear husband Alan Gordon Lowe of Toronto. Ruth leaves behind a daughter Heather and her husband Floris Van Woudenberg of Harvey Station and a son, Murray and his wife Stephanie Lowe of Redondo Beach, California. She is remembered fondly by her grandchildren: Collette Shee of Dublin, Georgia and Christopher Shee and his wife Rhonda Lynne Shee of Petawawa, Ontario, Amy Burgoyne McFadgen and her husband Josh McFadgen of Harvey Station, NB, and Ian Lowe of Fort Lauderdale FL, Scott Lowe of San Francisco, CA, and Victoria Lowe of Long Beach, CA and great grandchildren Madison Pope of Georgia and Emma McFadgen of New Brunswick.
Ruth was a keen sports person who loved sailing, paddling, swimming, and especially figure skating. She won many awards in her youth for her athletic endeavors in the Halifax area.
She married naval officer Alan Lowe on July 25, 1953. As a naval wife, Ruth supported Alan throughout his successful career while also raising their two children. While making a home on land for her husband at sea, Ruth tirelessly cheered her children in swimming, hockey, and the Cub Scouts and Brownies.
Throughout the years, Ruth demonstrated her love of people by working as a volunteer for organizations that supported children and the elderly. Notably she volunteered in the Children’s Hospital in Ottawa on the burn ward. She is lovingly remembered as a person who always found time for others in need.
Alan predeceased Ruth in 2010 yet insisted that as they lived their lives they would be remembered together and so his wishes were to wait for his lovely wife to be memorialized. A memorial service for both Alan and Ruth Lowe will be held at St. Andrew’s Church on Saturday December 1st at 11AM. The church is located at 6036 Coburg Rd. Halifax.
In lieu of flowers and keeping with how they lived, the Lowe’s have requested that donations be made to charities that assist children and the elderly.
